Samson Isberg (1795-1873) grew up on the Isberg farm, just south of Aga. Early on, he moved away from his father and stepmother, and joined the military in Bergen. In 1834, he started working as an executioner. He was Norway’s second to last executioner, and the first to have the whole country as his professional area. Despite his gloomy job title, Samson was described as a kind-hearted and friendly man. After fifteen executions, Samson retired. When he was close to the end of his life, he said "it will be hard to meet them again on the other side, the people who lost their lives to me."
