ÅKRE GÅRD
Arita and Gjermund Åkre are the 12th generation of fruit farmers. They run two fruit farms, one on Måge and one on Åkre.
Fruit is the foundation in our production of apple juice, cider and fruit distillates. Much of the focus is on producing unique, intense and correct flavours from the fruit. We work with both traditional Hardanger apples and more unknown varieties and fruits, which help to promote diversity in the production of ciders and fruit distillates from Hardanger.
Parallel to the work in the fruit fields, there is an intense focus on production methods and techniques that can contribute to raising the quality of the product. The cider is made using different methods such as the Traditional Method, the Charmat method, barrel fermentation and cryoconcentration. We have a strong focus on sustainability and making good use of our resources. The production of fruit distillates started as a desire to use sweet cherries and plums that would otherwise go to waste. Now, these raw materials become magical fruit distillates.
