NORANE FRUKTGARD

The south-facing farm is located by the Sognefjord, close to where the historic "Battle of Fimreite" took place in 1184. The sea battle practically took place on our doorstep, and we have used this in our marketing of the juice varieties such as 1184 Sognamost. The cider has been named Gjest, both because in the name is a tradition of serving guests who come to the farm, but also because the Sogndal thief, Gjest Baardsen, probably "borrowed" a rowing boat from our property sometime in the first half of the 19th century. On the farm, we still call this point in the orchard “Tjuastaai”. The name can be traced back to the 19th century.

The area has particularly good growing conditions for fruit, and the first fruit farmers can be traced a long way back in time. My wife Ann Kitty and I took over the farm in 2000. It is only in the last 3-4 years that the interest in cider has really increased. There are more and more fruit producers in Sogn who are now bringing old cider traditions back to life.
